Carol Fierke

Jerome and Isabella Karle Collegiate Professor of Chemistry, College of Literature, Science and the Arts
Chair, Department of Chemistry, College of Literature, Science and the Arts
Professor of Biological Chemistry, School of Medicine
(734) 936-2678
Biography:

Professor Fierke’s overall research goal is to understand the mechanisms used by biological catalysts, both proteins and nucleic acids, to achieve high efficiency and stringent specificity. She is particularly focused on the mechanism of medically important metalloenzymes. Her research is focused on understanding the chemical mechanism and structure-function relationships of important biological molecules, as well as studying the biochemistry of transitional metal ions such as zinc.
