ASME Journal of Mechanical Engineering
Special Issue: Sustainable Design


Authors submit papers by January 1, 2010
Review and revision process complete by May 1, 2010
Publication of special issue September 2010

The ASME Journal of Mechanical Design solicits submissions from all ASME members for a special issue on sustainable design, including design of devices, design theory, decision making methods, life cycle product design, market and regulatory factors, computer-aided sustainable engineering methods and models, metrics for sustainable design; uncertainty issues in evaluation of sustainable design, design and policy implications, cost, environmental and social impact.

Relevant application areas include energy, water, buildings, industrial processes, and transportation. We will also consider a small number of high quality papers in sustainable engineering education, including incorporation of sustainable design in engineering curricula.

Submission Instructions:
Please submit a journal quality version of your paper using the ASME Journal tool. Please note on the cover page that your paper is intended for the special issue on Sustainable Design. Also email the Technical Editor, Panos Y. Papalambros at editor@asmejmd.org to alert him that your paper is intended for the special issue.

Note that ASME will issue page charges for more than 9 journal pages (9000 words including figures and tables), and JMD limits papers to less than 12 journal pages. More information on JMD can be found at http://www.asmejmd.org/index.php

 


POWER Research Conference on Energy Research and Policy


Abstracts Due: January 4, 2010

The Energy Institute at Haas invites interested researchers to submit papers for a one day POWER Research Conference on Energy Research and Policy.

Of particular interest are papers that include relevant analytic questions associated with energy market research and policy including, but not limited to, the following subjects:

  • Electricity Retail Pricing and Policies
  • Transmission Investment and Pricing
  • Wholesale Electricity Market Design and Organization
  • Financial Instruments and Trading
  • Resource Adequacy and Capacity Markets
  • Impact of Economic and Environmental Regulation on Electricity Markets
  • Control of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Resulting from Electricity Usage
  • Market Power and Monitoring
  • Natural Gas Market Supply, Demand and Pricing
  • Wholesale and Retail Markets for Natural Gas

The conference will not cover topics related to oil and petroleum products.

Draft papers (electronic submissions in pdf format) should be sent by January 4, 2010 to: EI@haas.berkeley.edu with the subject: POWER 2010 Submission

Abstracts, speeches, and PowerPoint presentations will not be accepted. Authors will be notified concerning acceptance for the conference by January 29, 2010. Final papers will be due by March 1, 2010.
