Werner Zielke is a U-M alumnus who most recently was a professor of fluid mechanics and director of the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Computer Applications in Civil Engineering at Leibniz Universität in Hannover, Germany. His considerable expertise includes in flow and flow-induced processes in hydraulic, maritime, geotechnical and structural engineering.
Zielke spoke on the political, geographical and economical background and environmental issues of offshore wind energy and on the technical design challenges of wind turbines.
He shared information about the interdisciplinary research center ForWind and the research project GigaWind, which have been created at the Leibniz in cooperation with other institutions.
