Research

 

Michael M. Bernitsas is Professor of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. His research thrusts include mooring system dynamics, structural redesign and topology/material evolution, riser and pipeline mechanics, and current energy conversion.

He invented, designed, and filled for provisional patent an Ocean Current Energy Converter based on a very simple idea:enhancing and utilizing rather than spoiling and preventing Vortex Induced Vibrations (VIV).

Michael Bernitsas is a MMPEI Faculty Fellow.
