Nicolai Lehnert

Research

Nicolai Lehnert studied chemistry at the University of Duesseldorf, Germany, and received his Diploma in Chemistry in 1995. He moved on to the University of Mainz for his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry, which he received in 1999 working under the guidance of Dr. F. Tuczek in the group of Prof. P. Guetlich. From 1999 to 2001, he stayed as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. E. I. Solomon at Stanford University. In 2001, he returned to Germany for his Habilitation, which he received in 2006 in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Kiel.

Since September 2006, he is an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Michigan.

His main research interests are in bioinorganic and physical inorganic chemistry. A special emphasis of the research is put on heme nitrosyls and their biological significance, and biomimetic model complexes of hydrogenase enzymes as catalysts for the generation of hydrogen at low cost.

Nicolai Lehnert is a MMPEI Faculty Fellow.
