Martin M. Kaufman earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Urban, Technological and Environmental Planning in 1994. He has been at the UM-Flint since then, attaining the rank of professor and serving as department chair for six years.
Professor Kaufman has published over 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers in the areas of groundwater risk assessment, urban environment and energy, urban hydrology, and Geographic Information Systems. His books include Critical Thinker’s Guide to the Environment (John Wiley and Sons, 1996), and he is the co-author (with William M. Marsh) of the forthcoming Great Systems and Global Environments: A Physical Geography of Earth (John Wiley and Sons, 2008).
