Walter J. Weber is the Gordon Maskew Fair and Earnest Boyce Distinguished University Professor for the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. He is active in a variety of research and teaching activities related to energy and environment sustainability. His interests relate in large measure to the energy-water nexus, and focus currently on energy conservation and recovery in water/wastewater infrastructures and in biofuels and biomass energy generation.

Dr. Weber is the Founding Director of the following organizations:

  • ConsEnSus - The College of Engineering Academic Program of Concentrations in Environmental Sustainability
  • The Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic Center for Hazardous Substance Research
  • The National Center for Integrated Bioremediation Research and Development
  • University Cross-Disciplinary Degree Program in Water Resources Engineering, Sciences and Management

Weber has published over 300 technical and scientific peer-reviewed articles on a wide variety of environmental research and educational topics and issues. This includes authorship of four textbooks and editorship of several reference books. He has experience as an advisor and consultant to more than two hundred federal, foreign, state, and local governments and institutions; industry; and engineering, research, and development firms.
